While I may not agree with Miley Cyrus's every move (that was not a twerking pun, for the record), she's finally spouting some truth I can get behind: feminism. In an interview with BBC's radio program Newsbeat, Miley declared: "I feel like I'm one of the biggest feminists in the world because I tell women to not be scared of anything. I'm for anybody and everything. I don't care what you want to do in your life, or who you want to be with, who you want to love or what you look like."

Err...okay, perhaps her logic is a little flawed. But it's important we give her some credit: we live in an age where young female stars are quick to refute the feminist label. Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Kelly Clarkson--all incredibly powerful and influential female figures in the music industry--have all vehemently refuted the title.

At first, I was under the impression that every professional singer who calls herself a feminist is required to make weekly human sacrifices to goddesses of fertility and that these women were just saving time in their busy schedules. But after some research,  it turns out T. Swift isn't a feminist because of human sacrifices, but because of blissful ignorance!

Though Miley's personal definition may not be something we all totally agree with--and there are certainly some other...ahem...things she needs to work out--it's pretty awesome to see someone so in the spotlight unafraid to declare herself a feminist. Amidst all of the craziness, she's actually spouted some pearls of wisdom everyone seems to conveniently ignore.

So let's all reconsider our finger-wagging and get excited that someone is welcoming herself into the fold. And, at least if all else fails, we'll always have Beyonce
