When it comes to music festivals, there's always Coachella, Austin City Limits and SXSW, but there's one festival I look forward to every year and that's NYC Popfest. If you're a fan of indie pop or just like the idea of a smaller-scale festival with amazing bands, it's definitely a festival you should explore. It takes place May 30th-June 2nd with about 30 bands playing in a variety of NYC venues.

Friends and music lovers gather from all over the world for this 4-day music festival that celebrates all things indie pop. Bands range from twee to shoegaze and after-show dance parties can go on till the wee hours of the night. By the end of the four days, I usually have a million favorite new bands.  You can find the lineup here, which, along with new favorites, includes indie pop legends, The Bats. There's definitely something for everyone!

Tickets are being sold individually (which you can find here) so you can always pick and choose which shows sounds best. You can also RSVP on Facebook and download a playlist of all the bands that are playing this year.

One of the most exciting parts of the festival? NYC Popfest will be hosting a free screening of THE SHIELD AROUND THE K - THE STORY OF K RECORDS on Friday, May 31st at Videology in Williamsburg. There will even be a Q and A after the screening with director, Heather Rose Dominic.

Here are a few of my favorite bands playing this year!

The School "Is He Really Coming Home?"

The Secret History "Johnny Anorak"

Tigercats "Full Moon Reggae"

The Smittens "One Hundred Roses"

Math and Physics Club "Last Dance"

Monochrome Set "Jet Set Junta"
