After the success of the most recent Belle and Sebastian album, The Life Pursuit, band leader, main singer and songwriter Stuart Murdoch decided to take some time to pursue his dream of writing a rock musical scored for female singers. After auditioning dozens of talented vocalists from around the world via internet contests, he chose winners and, with all of the members of Belle and Sebastian backing him up, recorded this breathtaking record from one of most ... The indomitable Grace Jones is currently on tour. The impossibly glamorous, hell-raising performer is kicking ass and taking names all across Europe. She's even deigning to visit Hollywood for you west-coasters!               Reviewer David Taylor writes of her show: 'I can safely say that there aren't any other gigs I've witnessed when the highlight of the evening involved a 60-year-old ... If you're like me, the ringtones that are available from your phone provider never include any songs that you actually like. So you're stuck with the lousy free sounds or paying way too much for songs that you only have lukewarm feelings for. Sound editing software is expensive, so cutting your own songs on your computer probably isn't an option. This is why I was so happy when I found a website that will do it for you. All you do at the Make Your Own Ringtone ... Read More

All-gal band Katzenjammer is playing Bonnaroo on June 12 at the invite of David Byrne, as part of the first artist-curated stage at the festival. After that, the Oslo group will stop by the Mercury Lounge in NYC on June 16. The women just released their single ''Bar in Amsterdam'' this week, and you can listen to a snippet of it for free (it's a pretty fun song). You can also check out their MySpace page to hear other tunes. By the way, these ladies are ... Read More
Two of my favorite things! The girl band of hillbilly stompers, Those Darlin's have collaborated with BluBlocker Sunglasses. Fans who buy their new vinyl record at select indie retailers get a free pair of the sunglasses.  This offer begins on the first Record Store Day Presents Vinyl Saturday happening June 20th. Not since the Oak Ridge Boys has Blublockers supported a musical act.  I am impressed. If you are not familiar, go listen here and check their ... Read More
Last night a bunch of us went to an official Listening Party for Moby's album 'Wait for Me' (which comes out June 30!). Aside from the music being serene and awesome, on top of an open bar, it was also at the Hayden Planetarium in the National History Museum in New York. The album played to a packed planetarium while we gazed up at the night sky and watched planet Earth expand and disappear as we basically traveled through the solar system. All of the images were ... Headed to Bonnaroo? If so, you're probably thinking about the music more than the water you'll be drinking, but trust us, once you get there and that hot Tennessee sun is beating down on your noggin (hope you remembered sunscreen!), you'll be grateful for any drop of H2O you can slurp. Lucky for you, BUST has the inside scoop on how you quench your thirst for FREE (girl, you know how expensive bottled water can get at concerts) and help the ... Read More
While I was on my way in today, I found myself thinking about women and music. Yes, I realize that sounds a little heavy for pre-10-AM F-train thought patterns. But there it was, a mental feminist musical analysis for my commute instead of the usual people-watching or idle ad-reading. It was brought on by the fact that I was listening to the Thermals on the train and thinking about how they have a female bassist. I realized that I liked the band more after I ... Read More
