In case you missed Morningwood rock out at the BUST party the other night, here is their hilarious new video for Sugarbaby. Not sure why I'm so disturbed by seeing the guy and the puppet together, it's kinda creepy. I do love their ... Read More
Banging on some drums is just what happened at this year's 88 BoaDrum, which was last Friday (8/8/08) and featured  88 dummers playing an 88-minute-long song!  Whew!    This jam happened last year in Brooklyn (on 7/7/07) and was  led by Japanese noise rockers the Boredoms (thus, the name  Boadrums?).  This year, the Boredoms handed off maestro duty  to Brooklyn art-rock gurus, Gang Gang Dance.   People  gathered at ... I’ve watched Rock ‘N’ Roll Camp For Girls grow and kick butt since their first session in 2001 teaching girls ages 8-18 how to rock hard, but living on the east coast I could only dreamily wish of wailing on a guitar in Portland, Oregon with the rest of them. Now the latest venture of the Camp is The Rock ‘N’ Roll Camp For Girls book. Chronicle Books is celebrating this rocking book by announcing the Girls Fender® Guitar ... Read More

Where do we go now?

BY Laurie in Music Stuff

I know it's not nice to make fun of old people, lord knows we're all gonna be there sooner than we like to admit, but I feel the need to call out Axl here. Corn rows? cmon. The bicycle shorts were bad enough in 1989,  but you are white. Stop this silliness. Oh, and apparently there is a partially leaked new Guns and Roses album floating around, with only the one original member who has not been kicked out yet, Axl Rose himself. Read all about it here on ... Read More
Me and my boo Michael decided to take a trip down memory lane last night to check out the Butthole Surfers reunion show at Webster Hall. The audience was full of “mature” punk rockers, mostly over 40, former East Village degenerates, now sober. Everything was going smoothly, us olds were rocking out to the band, (who were supported by some of the School of Rock teenagers), they had the vintage weird and  twisted films projected on stage ... Natasha Schneider

BY Laurie in Music Stuff

I was very sad to hear of the passing of Natasha Schneider, the Russian born singer and musician from the band Eleven. I was lucky to meet her once at a photoshoot a few years ago, while she was on tour with Queens of the Stone Age. She died of cancer on July 2nd. Friends of Natasha's,  QOTSA, PJ Harvey, Jack Black + Kyle Gass, Matt Cameron, Brody Dalle, Jesse Hughes, Billy F. Gibbons, Chris Goss, and Alain Johannes will be performing on Aug 16th in LA at the ... Read More

Pretty adorable

BY Dawn in Music Stuff

When a band or performer is give the opportunity to perform on shows like SNL or David Letterman, it's considered to be a huge accomplishment and testament to their success...personally, I would feel most achieved if I were to appear on Sesame Street. I mean, how awesome would it be to hang out with Telly and Elmo? Feist...you've made it. ... Read More
Admittedly, I am a total sucker for a dude who can shred nasty guitar solos- saying it has an overtly sexual quality is nothing new, so I won't say it.  Naturally, I was stoked that hometown heroes, Ratatat, dropped by Williamsburg Music Hall in Brooklyn to play a sold out show.  Needless to say, the energy was high and the crowd was a motley mix of hip hop kids, college students and pretty girls.  I made my way to the mezzanine to watch ... Yes, it's true!  The Deal sisters and their current Breeders lineup dropped by Brooklyn yesterday afternoon to play McCarren Pool as part of the summer Pool Parties Series! The show was free.  And it was apparently the place to be.  The Olympic-sized pool accommodates thousands (and should be noted it is a veritable oven in the summer sun), but the line outside moved slowly and there were still folks who hadn't gotten in by the end of the set! ...
