Many commercials use misogynistic messages and stereotypes to promote their product, especially products geared to men such as beer. As it turns out, advertisements targeted for women can be equally offensive and ridiculous. Take, for instance, the advertisements for Bacardi Breezers stating that the must-need accessory for a woman is an ugly female friend so they can seem more attractive in comparison. Society and the media are already encouraging impossible body ... Read More
Father's day is upon us, friends. And while it's perhaps not the most raucous holiday ever, there are a bunch of warm and fuzzy stories floating in the ether about dads and what they do. Top of the list is this bonanza of hip dadness offered by Grist: Green Dads We Heart . Eco-parenting has never been more attractive. I'm looking at you, Brad and Barack.          Speaking of Barack, he's written a straight-up tearjerker of a ... Read More

Sunshine-y Day

BY Web Intern in General

It was so rainy and gloomy in NYC this week that I wish I'd had something like this to brighten the days. This umbrella changes color when it gets wet. Dry, it has a simple black and white design of a cityscape. But as soon as the rain hits it the white turns into a cheery rainbow sure to take the gloom and doom from even the stormiest of days. ... Highway to Hell

BY Web Intern in General

This would certainly break up the monotony of a long highway drive. A college student in Raleigh (allegedly) rearranged a bunch of road cones and barrels into the shape of a monster. He even drew on a face. The monster was up for less than a day before authorities had it taken down. Joe Carnevale, the student accused, was arrested for this last week. He is being charged with larceny and property damage and goes to court on July 21. Hopefully he gets a judge with ... Read More
I'm sweating this song by Lily Allen. That jumpsuit! Those eyes! The heels! But as a rabid old-school country fan, I especially love the allusion to country music television specials from the days of yore. Just compare it with this performance by Loretta Lynn and Jeannie C. Riley. Uncanny, no? So many problems a girl can run into, just trying to get a good, erm, roll in the hay. ... Read More
I don't know about you guys, but when I think sunscreen, I think Will Ferrell. That is why it comes as no surprise that he is both endorsing and showing off his totally hot bod on the bottles of sunscreen for Fred Flare. So check them out and if you buy some you'll be supporting Cancer for College, where the proceeds of the sunscreen go to scholarships for cancer survivors. Be part of a good cause and keep your skin healthy for the ... Read More
So, BUSTies, how obsessed are you with following the Iran Election story? There's quite a bit of buzz going around our offices about it. After all, we do love a good protest around here. That's not to diminish what's going on, of course (and neither is my headline), but anything with this much civil disobedience and political upset is obviously compelling. One thing that's particularly interesting is all this talk about the activists' use of Twitter to spread ... Read More

You've Been Framed

BY Team Intern in General

Haven't you always wanted to unleash creative fury on plain white walls!?! Maybe you live in a dorm room that looks like the sterile unit of a hospital or in a bland apartment that has about as much pigment and flavor as cauliflower? If you have a play room and are drawing a creative blank on how to decorate Toyland, check out this interactive wallpaper by Taylor and Wood as a semi-DIY option.                   ... Read More

Gotta Collect 'Em All!

BY Web Intern in General

When I was a kid, I found the concept of collecting things - tchotchkes, Barbies, stamps, and so on - to be very cool. Unfortunately, I was too cheap and impatient to start a collection myself, so it never ever really went past Spice Girls stickers for me. I must not have been the only one who found it interesting considering the obsessive trends of the past that had to do with collecting. Remember the ridiculously high prices rare Beanie Babies and Pokemon cards ... Read More
You know those scenes in movies where something mundane is happening, and then all of a sudden a really amazing song starts playing and the main character looks up to see the hottest person ever walking towards them in slow motion? Well that's what listening to Sick Sick Sister is like. Sick Sick Sister is a Portland based band fronted by Ruth ... Read More
