Deradoorian EP

BY Laurie in General

Deradoorian Mind Raft Lovepump United While ostensibly a record made 'for you to do drugs to, or something,' Mind Raft, the debut EP from Dirty Projectors singer/bassist Angel Deradoorian, comes across just as easily as a study in deliberate deconstruction. Deradoorian, who uses only her surname as her solo moniker, diffuses the occasional New Age tang by singing with a slightly more mannered, downward-spiraling inflection here than we're used to, creating a ... As a follow-up to the blog yesterday about Samantha Orobator, the British woman who became pregnant while incarcerated in Laos on drug trafficking charges, is escaping 'death by firing squad.' Whew! Like I said yesterday , I don't know if she was raped in prison or tried to get pregnant on purpose to spare her life, but it has worked. Orobator's trial in Laos will likely take place sometime next week. --Regina links: cnn.com, ... Read More

Samantha's sentence

BY Team Intern in General

A British woman named Samantha Orobator (pictured) has been charged with drug trafficking and is facing the death penalty in Laos. Orobator, 20, was arrested for carrying half a kilo of heroin back in August in the country. OK, if you're like me and have watched enough of Locked Up Abroad, it's easy to see it's definitely not a pretty thing to be incarcerated in a foreign country. Especially one who believes in 'death by firing squad,' supposedly the ... Read More

Hipster Grifter, Busted

BY Laurie in General

So apparently the Hipster Grifter aka Kari Ferrell turned herself in to the cops in Philly on Sunday night. I know a lot of people are fascinated with this girl, but really, what is the big deal? She's a cute Asian girl that happens to also be a really good liar. I do like that freewiliamsburg.com made a foldable doll, and promises to make a 'new Williamsburg foldable celebrity' each month. Who will be next? via gawker ... Read More
Shu Okada has lived in Tokyo, studied at Central St. Martins in London and is now living it up as a Brooklyn artist. Her illustrations have an eerie sophistication beneath a childlike mask. She uses a unique white-line style which creates strange, fragmented tension and adds to the mystery of her work. In addition to being an illustrator, Shu is also a photographer. Her photographs and watercolors both portray the contained, luminous energy captured in still ... Read More
