Figure skating is one of those Olympic sports that draws a huge viewership. As such, it leads to a sense of rivalry in the fans (I still feel Michelle Kwan was robbed by Tara Lipinski in the ’98 Games, but that’s neither here nor there) but this year is one where everyone is worth rooting for. Most discussed so far is probably Joannie Rochette—a second-time Olympian from Canada—whose mother died unexpectedly on Sunday. Despite this blow, ... Read More
The ladies of the US’s women’s hockey team are a stunning group of women—who will be going for the gold this Thursday against Canada--peppered with Ivy League grads, awesome moms, and career women (including two women who have opened their own hockey centers.) So, basically, ladies getting stuff done and then going and winning Olympic medals. Clearly awesome. Despite this group of awesome women’s success on the ice and off, some are calling ... Read More
Betty White has been getting a lot of well-deserved attention these days. We recently blogged about how much we love the ex-Golden Girl, as she proves that age ain't nothing but a number when it comes to relevance as an actress and comedienne.  According to Entertainment Weekly,  Saturday Night Live is close to having the 88-year-old host the show. This would be Betty White's first time hosting, and according to columnist Michael Ausiello, she wouldn't ... Read More
In Part I of Shaming Famewhores I discussed going on the reality TV dating show Frank the Entertainer…In a Basement Affair, currently on Vh1, as a performance art piece. I performed as myself rather than as a typical wacky performance artist in hopes to deny what I believed was production’s expectations of me. I also went on the show to do research on the stereotyping machine that is reality ... Read More
Okay.  I love this commercial.  I've watched it a million times and still laugh every time he says, "I'm on a horse."  And then it ends, and I feel like a bad feminist because there's no getting around the fact that the entire thing is based on gender stereotypes. Ahem: "Sadly, your man isn't me- but if he stopped using lady scented body wash he could smell like me."  "It's an oyster with two tickets to that THING you love." "Look again, the ... Read More
She overcame injury and struck gold! On Wednesday in the women's downhill event, Lindsey Vonn of the USA beat her competition by .56 seconds to become the top of the tops. Vonn was unsure of competing due to shin bruises. The silver and bronze winners were Julia Mancuso (USA) and Elisabeth Görgl (Austria) respectively. You go, girls! In the first episode of our new series for BUST TV, we get to hang out and chat with the brilliant Tracey Ullman over some knitting. Liz Armstrong talks to Tracey about some of the characters she's developed for the new season of her Showtime series, Tracey Ullman's State of the Union. While Laura Bush, Arianna Huffington, Rachel Maddow, Christiane Amanpour, and Ruth Madoff all in one room together would already make for fun viewing,  Tracey manages to ... Read More
Mo'Nique doesn't stop!  After winning a number of awards (including a SAG Award, a Golden Globe and the Washington, DC, Boston, Los Angeles, and New York Film Critics Award) being nominated for an Academy Award, and hosting a successful late-night talk show on BET, Mo'Nique continues to keep herself in the spotlight by preparing for her highly anticipated Spread The Love Comedy Tour with talk show co-star Rodney Perry, comedian Tone-X, and DJ ...                In a recent post by Gawker, Brian Moylan recounts the many ways Betty White is on top of her game right now.  Whether starring in movies, a Super Bowl ad, or sitcoms, Betty White's staying power and ability to poke fun at roles traditionally allocated to elderly women has garnered herself a newfound respect from her audience and reminded us why we've loved her all along.  And as ... [video: New Law Requires Women To Name Baby, Paint Nursery Before Getting Abortion 425x344] Hilarious but scarily too realistic.  Already there are laws that force doctors to show women an ultrasound before they can undergo the procedure (Kentucky's trying to pass that law right now.)  And currently a pregnant Iowa woman is being jailed for trying to murder her fetus after she fell down the stairs, voluntarily went to the hospital out of concern ...
