The mission of Healthy Models is to fight against the symptoms, causes, stigmatization, and co-morbid conditions of eating disorders.The Healthy Models Coalition was founded by a group of people dedicated to body image improvement and eating disorder recovery. Many have suffered first-hand from eating disorders and understand the process of recovery. We advocate recovery from eating disorders and related co-morbid conditions. We believe that illness should not be a prerequisite for any job and that the low body weights required of fashion models are dangerous for both the models themselves and those they influence. We work toward a world in which everyone is encouraged to love their body, regardless of appearance, size or weight, age, gender, race, ability, class, sexual orientation, or compliance with social standards. We believe that everyone has the right to live in a culture that encourages self love and acceptance.Right now our focus is on passing Legislation requiring models to have a minimum BMI of 18.5, which is the UN standard for a minimum healthy weight. We will become involved with other worthy causes as our coalition expands and fulfills its goals.
