New York City resident Sarah Cooley makes homemade candles out of domestically grown, pure soybean oil for her home and lifestyle store, Simply Curated. The candles are poured into adorable containers like vintage cocktail glasses and come in awesome scents like Guava Fig. Simply Curated will be a vendor at our BUST Magazine Holiday Craftacular and Food Fair this month, which we're super psyched about.  Here's what Sarah had to say about her craft:Tell us ...   George Zimmerman's girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, who called the police last month when Zimmerman was allegedly breaking her things and pointing a gun at her, now says, "I am not afraid of George in any manner and I want to be with him." Scheibe says that the official report doesn't accurately reflect what happened. She no longer wants to press charges and wants to lift the order that prevents them from having contact with one ... Read More
Natalie Ribbons of Agent Ribbons (and friend of BUST!) formed 60s-style, indie pysch-pop band, Tele Novella, just in time for the South by Southwest music festival in March. Based in Austin, Texas, the band is composed of other Agent Ribbons and Voxtrot members. Here's their dreamy new single, "Umbrella at the Station," a bonus track from the "No Excalibur" 7" that came out in the beginning of November.    Thanks to Women in ... Last night CBS re-aired a 60 Minutes segment from January, featuring an interview with badass British/Caymanian world-champion free diver, Tanya Streeter.    If you're like me, up until recently you had no idea what free diving was. In this potentially lethal sport, the diver goes hundreds of feet into the depths of the ocean with no oxygen tanks or equipment of any kind. Before going down, divers will  perform breathing exercises to expand their ... Read More
Not only is the cult-classic Hedwig and the Angry Inch coming to Broadway, but NPH is going to star in the lead role—glitter, giant blonde wig and all.  It's a heavy plot for a Broadway musical: hailing from East Germany, Hedwig (formerly Hansel) falls in love with a German soldier, Luther, and decides to marry him to escape the communist country. To validate the marriage, which at the time had to be between a man and a woman, Hedwig's mother ... Read More
I don't know about you, but I'm super enamored of Uzo Aduba and Danielle Brooks, better known as Crazy Eyes and Taystee, the characters they play on the Netflix series, Orange is the New Black. Aduba, who has a strong background in theater, is easily one of the best actors on the show, and it doesn't hurt that her character is incredibly heartbreaking and complex. Brooks plays the perceived comic relief, but as the plot develops, her character, Taystee, is ... Read More
Evan Rachel Wood launched a series of (rightfully) angry tweets at the MPAA last week, after discovering that they had forced director Frederik Bond to edit out a particular scene in his new film, "Charlie Countryman," in which Wood receives oral sex from her male co-star, Shia LaBeouf. Had the scene been left in, the film would have received an NC-17 rating, something that many filmmakers try to avoid as it seriously limits their audience and the film's ... Read More
I’ve found my new musical crush in Sharkmuffin, an all-female noise-punk trio from Brooklyn whose third EP 1097 debuts this month. If their first two EPs were humble admissions of guilt, 1097 is the realization that they were right all along—a giant ‘fuck you’ to whoever pissed them off personally or politically.  The cover for the first track, "Foul Play" features lead guitarist/vocalist Tarra Thiessen on a beach between two cairns, maybe ... According to data collected by AYI (Are You Interested), a Tinder-style dating app, users respond better to potential partners outside of their own ethnicity when searching for dates. Surveying over 2 million people, the data revealed several things, most notably that all men, except for Asian men, prefer Asian women.  "People are less prejudice when they decide who they want to respond to in an online dating context," Josh Fischer, VP of Product & ... When a friend of photographer Debbie Boud posted pictures of actresses from "The L Word" noting how attractive they were, Boud was dissatisfied: not all of the women were actually gay and they represented only a stereotypically pretty look. In response, her friend challenged Boud to find "gay and hot" lesbian models, an oft-omitted group as far as popular media goes. Thus began her 2010 "It's All Butch," calendar project.  "I wanted to break the ... Read More
