After finding out this week that my very favorite show, Flight of the Conchords, was not coming back for a new season, I was heartbroken. But thanks to my pal Jodi, I've been alerted to a pair of dudes who hail not from New Zealand but from the Old Testament: a couple of members of my tribe (I'm guessing) who, with a bit more work, just might become contenders to be the next FOC. Check out some of their videos below, and Happy Hannukah y'all!

What do you get for the woman who has everything -- including a multi-media publishing and television empire? How about some Mean Cards, or Guinness Beer Soap? If you've never been to a BUST Craftacular, this vid will give you a fantastic idea of what goes down, plus introduce ... Read More

Author Barbara J. Berg, Ph.D., who will be speaking at 92Y in Tribeca next month, answers that one with a resounding NOPE. Her most recent book, in fact, is Sexism in America: Alive, Well, and Ruining Our Future. Her title lacks subtlety, but so do most calls to action. That is, Berg's book is very much intended as "a wake-up call," and that's what it's often described as by both professional and amateur reviewers. According to the ... Read More

Picking things for the holiday gift guide is one of my favorite duties when it comes to working on the Dec/Jan issue. It's so fun to window shop on the Internet and see all the awesome goodies that everyone puts together. Inevitably, I find way more cool stuff than fits on one page, so here are a few extras in case you need some additional gift-giving inspiration (for friends, family, or, of course, yourself!). First up, this Letter Bag from Moop in gunmetal gray. ... Read More

Rosanne Cash, Natalie Portman, Princess Leia and Susan Lucci—together at last? The New York Times announced this week its ninth annual Arts and Leisure Weekend, to be held at the Times Center January 7th through January 10th, and signed on for “Times Talks” are a number of accomplished (and entertaining) ladies. They made it a long weekend, and each of the four days promises new conversations between Times journalists ... Read More

I have been going sort of nuts over Hidden, the new These New Puritans album, which is set to be released by Domino on March 2nd. I wasn't familiar with the band until recently, but now I'm hooked and will be forced to sniff out their first release, Beat Pyramid, as well.
The first single off of Hidden is called "We Want War," and happens to be my favorite song off of the album. I usually hate when that happens, but luckily the rest of the CD is just as ... Read More

Sigh. On their official website, Flight of the Conchord's beloved Brett Mckenzie today released the following statement: "We are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine ... Read More

Long before Lady Gaga was lady gaga, she was just little old Stefani Germanotta, an NYU student at the Tisch School of the Arts with a mean set of pipes who knew how to tickle the ivories. This video makes me really curious how she went from this rather plain-Jane image to her current over-the-top one. I see the talent here, but no evidence whatsoever of what is to come. Where did that come from, then? Was it her idea? The suggestion of friends? A manager? ... Read More

Even though I was sick as a dog and filled with green boogers from the shoulders up, I ran-skipped all the way to the BUST office when I got word that my Joey Roth Ceramic Speakers had arrived. "I hope you don't have to send these back; the box is huge," my editor informed me. And I'm glad that I don't have to send them back too because at this point, I would put on a onesie and wrestle someone to the ground to be able to keep these things.
Joey Roth lives in ... Read More
