Phyllis Gould, 91, is one seriously awesome lady. As one of the original members of the “Rosie the Riveters”, she has been working since the Clinton Administration to receive White House recognition for the original “Rosies” and their indispensable contributions during WWII.

And, luckily for us, Vice President Joe Biden is the first politician to ever respond and invite a group of six women (including Gould) to the White House for a “long overdue honor.”

“You deserved this visit a long, long time ago,” Biden told the women, according to ABC News. “Seeing these women working in a factory, doing anything any man could do, it began to change everything.”

The image of Rosie the Riveter is iconic in US culture and an inspiration to the feminist movement. A brief history lesson: during World War II, while many of the nation’s working men went to fight in the war in Europe and Japan, American women took their places working in the factories that provided for U.S. troops.

The Rosies also received a surprise visit from President Obama himself; one of the Rosies, Kay Morrison, even managed to smooch him on the lips!

It is absolutely amazing seeing these strong, fierce women be recognized for their contributions to society; I couldn’t help but get emotional! Thank you Rosies for all that you have done.
