It's pretty obvious that we adore Canadian electro artist Grimes. Our current cover girl is not only one of today's most exciting musicians, but super politically articulate (and you can hear it in her music-- "Oblivion" is about sexual harrassment). If you read our interview with her, you'll know she's a fiercely independent, outspoken feminist who insists on having "[a] hundred percent" creative control over her work. ("I feel like if I didn't do it, it's not ... Read More
I have had the worst relationship with deodorant. I've tried just about everything: lady brands, Mitchum, Degree, Old Spice; all of them were either too weak or put nasty stains on my clothes. I figured aluminum was the problem, as the active ingredient in antiperspirant is proven to leave gross marks, but even aluminum-free deodorants ruined my shirts. So I kept coming back to my old standard, Axe (it's fantastic deodorant, don't look at me like that), but ... Read More
We're still mourning our hero Phyllis Diller after she passed away last August, but on May 1, it'll be like she's still here. The legendary comedian will be on Dukes of Melrose, a Bravo reality show that follows the owners of a high-end vintage boutique in Hollywood. For her last TV appearance ever, Diller is taking Dukes star Cameron Silver on a tour of her closet, which, if you know her super theatric style, is probably insane. Silver says it lived up to all ... Read More
As a proud Oklahoman, I will talk your ear off about how much I love my home state. It is full of wonderful people, great food, and really exciting scenes in cities like Tulsa (represent) and Oklahoma City. Unfortunately, most people wouldn't know that for all the idiots who make national press-- and they're usually in the government. Today, my sigh of disappointment comes from the Senate-- yesterday, the Oklahoma government passed a measure banning gay marriage ... Read More
The Good Men Project just released a list of "9 Things Men Can Do to Change Themselves and the World." We're into The Good Men Project's attempts to shift the discussion on modern masculinity, but we can't quite figure out our thoughts on this list. Check it out below: 1. Listen to and love women: Stop referring to women who are clear, focused and direct as bitches, ball busters and cunts. Get your mitts on some bell hooks, Audre Lorde and any ... Read More
Catcalling is such a common phenomenon that a lot of people have learned to just ignore it. But this week, activists all over the world want to let everyone know that any form of street harassment is not okay. People in Philadelphia, Boston, Colombia, the Czech Republic, and many more have been posting ads on the non-profit organization Hollaback!'s Facebook for anti-street harassment week (April 7-13). Advocates hope that increased attention to this ... Read More
The Oregon Zoo just posted an adorable video of their two-month-old river otter Molalla learning to swim. Otter keeper Becca VanBeek explains that otters are practically immobile when they're babies, so Mo's mom Tilly has been easing him into the water. Baby Mo was as big as "a handful of jellybeans" (!!!) when he was born, but he's now a 2000-gram pup with "quite the personality." To honor the first river otter born at Oregon Zoo, Metro is donating money from ... Read More
Thank god May 26th is on a Sunday, because thanks to the Arrested Development premiere, we won't be leaving our couches. We're crazy with anticipation, and these new teaser posters aren't making it any easier. Those afraid of any possible spoilers will be pleased by the safe references on display here, but the long wait has us eager for clues of what's next for the Bluths. You'd think a show with such intricate writing would give us a cryptic, Mad Men-style ... Read More
You see this weird ass plastic-looking thing? Apparently it's a condom, and it could be the next big thing in safe sex. The Origami is a collapsible silicone condom inspired by, well, origami, and it's designed to be a stronger, more comfortable, and realistic alternative to latex. They're also going to make a variety of condom types, including a male, female, and anal condom. From what we can tell, it looks a little thicker than the typical latex condom, but it ... Read More
In this golden age of entertainment, TV is not only better than ever, but more diverse. It's incredibly refreshing to see that some of today's best comedies and dramas feature a ton of women as well as people of color in prominent roles. Unfortunately, it looks like it's still a bunch of white dudes behind the scenes at some shows. The Writer's Guild of America West (WGAW) recently released statistics that reveal a depressing disparity in TV writing staffs. While ... Read More
