Today, as the state of Texas wakes up, its citizens may find more than 1/3 of its abortion clinics suddenly shut down.

The worst part is, this ridiculous new measure wasn't even supposed to happen in the first place. Earlier this week, the Texas law that would potentially close many of the state's aforementioned abortion clinics was nixed by a federal judge. Now, just four days later, the decision has been reversed.

According to the New York Times' report, the law would force 13 of 36 abortion clinics to cease operations immediately after it is put into effect. These shut-downs are mandated by a new requirement: one that says a Texas doctor performing an abortion "must have formal admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic."

Judge Lee Yeakel, who originally blocked the bill on Monday, says this requirement is "unconstitutional" and that admitting privileges have "no bearing" on the safety of clinic patients.

Of course, state attorney general and potential Wendy Davis rival, Greg Abbott assures the decision is made for the purpose of protecting the "health and safety of Texas women."

It sounds like less concern for the health and safety of Texas women and more like the need to take away right after right. But I dunno, it's just a hunch.
