You know the drill: you’re watching the surprisingly pro-women “After the Final Rose” episode of the Bachelor, and on comes the typical ABC family-oriented ads about the perfect wholesome family and what they buy. They are almost always white, heterosexual, suburban pictures of loving parents and obedient yet charmingly sassy children.

But then there’s this Honey Maid ad. Delightfully family friendly with an epic boost of progressive social commentary, this ad features loving couples of diverse interests, races, and sexual orientations. The ad video functions to remind us that  “No matter what changes, what makes us wholesome never will.”

Yes, I know it’s just an ad, but we shouldn't underestimate the cultural significance of this 30 second commercial. Advertisers want us to buy things, and they usually succeed; this video is indicative of a real transformation in the way we view and accept each other and our families. Oh, and did I mention Honey Maid also made a gorgeous Documentary titled "Dad & Papa?" Amazing. I’m out to get some teddy grahams, and I’ll be skipping the whole way!
