14-year-old Ruby Baron is a super-talented young artist who can often be seen playing her ukelele and sporting pink hair. She is currently a freshman at La Guardia High School in N.Y.C. and has been subscribing to BUST since she was 12, and we can’t wait to see where life takes her.

On November 27th, Ruby, her father Ron and his wife Irit, and her 5-year-old half-sister Naomi were involved in a devastating car accident on the way to a holiday party. Naomi tragically did not survive, and Ruby is now paralyzed from the waist down due to internal trauma and major spinal cord injuries. Ruby bravely continues to fight for the use of her legs, and she is aided by her mother Rose, who has taken a leave of absence from her teaching job at Pratt. A few days ago, she remarkably had some slight movement in one of her legs!

Ruby was recently moved from the Albany Medical Center to RUSK, a rehabilitation center at which she will stay for the coming months, and her family is in the process of finding wheelchair-accessible transportation and housing. Ruby has inspired us with her bravery and perseverance, and we hope that you will pitch in anything you can to help with her recovery. The family is now facing out-of-pocket medical bills, and their insurance plan does not cover much of Ruby’s necessary treatment. Let’s all Rally for Ruby and support this family as this amazing BUST girly continues to courageously battle the challenges she now faces.
