Thanks to the witty efforts of www.meninyogapants.com, now we can all begin the healing process: turns out, yoga pants are not just for making your butt look cute. They're a necessary fact of...you guessed it...yoga.

This funny photo project addresses how often people are shamed for how they look in skin-tight pants, and breaks the assumption that spandex and polyester blend are only apropos for certain body types, for certain purposes.

The notion that yoga pants are especially designed to make trim ladies look trimmer is flawed, and especially self-defeating for those of us just trying to work out in peace. When yoga pants aren't used in the service of accentuating or flaunting a derriere, we see them for the mere convenience they are. A man in yoga pants breaks the norm! He tells us we don't have to worry about what other people think, despite all the show-off-y Downward Dogs happening on the mat across the way!

This tongue-in-cheek approach to a serious body policing issue will hopefully remind everyone how ridiculous and unnecessary it is to critique one another’s appearances. The refreshing concept accentuates problems with gender roles and objectifying  female (and in this case, male...) forms. All too often, women completing simple tasks are made to feel uncomfortable in their own skin by people non-consensually sexualizing their bodies. It's bad enough that we are ogled at and shamed for wearing skirts that are too short, shirts that are too tight... now our comfort and athletic wear isn’t safe either?

And so, we salute Men in Yoga Pants. Not everything a person wears should necessitate a sexual implication. And working out is one of those patently unsexy things.
