Nathan W. Pyle is the author of NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette, a collection of illustrations that adorably and accurately depict the unwritten laws that will keep you outta trouble in good ol' New York. As the book description entails:  "Living in New York City for five years as a transplant from Ohio, illustrator and T-shirt designer Nathan Pyle was fascinated by the unique habits and unspoken customs New Yorkers follow to make life bearable in a city ... Rad poetry columnist for BUST and former BUST covergirl Amber Tamblyn, in collaboration with filmmakers Beans & Bueller, has made the most uniquely amazing video for the latter’s web series segment, “This One Time.” As the Beans & Bueller website states, the segment “brings the intimate, funny, disturbing, often wasted tales of interesting people to life through puppetry”—a genius idea with hilarious, but also ... Menstrupedia is a self-defined "friendly guide to periods which helps girls and women to stay healthy and active during their periods." That description couldn't be any more perfect! The website is simple yet incredibly informative; it treats the subject of menstruation both frankly and warmly. Needless to say, I wish I had access to something like this when I was 11 years old (I like to think the various Kotex websites that were 90% friendship-bracelet tutorials ... Read More
I’m convinced that the French band Ödland is made of pure magic. Comprised of members Alizée Bingöllü, Lorenzo Papace, Lea Bingöllü, and Isabelle Royet-Journoud, their sound is at times ethereal and haunting--conjuring up images of ghosts and fairies in foggy fields--and at other times childlike and playful, reminiscent of hopscotch and make-believe. With the use of a variety of instruments, including the musical saw and ... Read More

The dark, haunting tune tells the story of the encounter between the conjoined twins, Evelyn and Evelyn, and tragic character Sandy Fishnets. The beautiful, flickering animation - which also includes amazing light painting - is a perfect companion to the song. Palmer and Webley chose director and artist Vince Mascoli to create the ... When I found out Disney had reopened their hand-drawn animation studios and announced plans to do another 2D feature in the tradition of their old classics, I was SUPER excited. So I braved the weekend crowds on Saturday to check out The Princess and the Frog, Disney's first 2D feature since 2004's Home on the Range, and was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had watching a movie whose target audience is about 15 years my junior. Tiana is the 'princess' in ... Read More
Thanks to a good friend who had a spare ticket, I was fortunate enough to spend last Friday evening at Webster Hall here in NYC with indie/art/prog/whatever you want to call them-rockers, Mew. Having no experience seeing the Danish band live, I was pretty excited to see what they had in store. The evening opened with the Brooklyn-based band, Bear in Heaven. I try to stay open-minded when it comes to opening bands, especially when they are preceding highly known ... Read More
