One of my favorite collections of the season has to be the adorably wearable Spring/Summer 2013 collection by Rachel Antonoff. Each season, her presentation is cuter than the last and this season doesn’t disappoint. Her garden party of fashion was a wonderland of preppy, school-yard looks with a hint of classic edge. The inspiration, 1977’s scientific film Powers of Ten, can be seen in the mesmerizing silk prints (which are actually aerial ... Read More
Gawd, I love colored cords. They're so much more fun than blue jeans. When wearing colored cords, I usually like to keep the rest of my outfit simple; a grey sweater looks great with cords of any color, and you can never go wrong with a pair of black flats. Corduroy Pant, $22.99, target.com Stay tuned each week for more cool gadgets and pretty things that Lan, our senior designer here at BUST, loves enough to share with ... Read More
Designer Tara Subkoff is creating fashion for thrifty cool girls while simultaneously challenging narrow beauty and style ideals.  She put on an exceptional show for her Spring 2013 line for her label, Imitation of Christ.  The aptly titled "This Is Not a Fashion Show" moved away from the idea that fashion has to be flawless and fall into the weird notions of what's considered beautiful or desirable. Imitation of Christ is known for performance ... Read More
BUST cover girl and all-around awesome lady Tavi Gevinson was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, and we just about plotzed. Jimmy even held up the Aug/Sept issue of BUST, featuring Tavi in all her glory.   We have such a lady crush on Tavi and her site Rookie. Both do an amazing job of starting conversations about what it's like to be a teenage girl, and about feminism. Tavi chatted with Fallon about her new book Rookie Yearbook One, her hilarious ... Here in New York, the first signs of fall manifest in our wardrobes. Temperatures have dropped out of "sweat torture" territory, and cardigans are creeping out of our closets as things cool down. The pinnacle of cool, though, has got to be the World Maker Faire; on September 29 and 30, the grounds around the New York Hall of Science in Queens will transform into the world's largest DIY festival. You are cordially invited to join us at the third annual BUST ... Read More
Vaute Couture, the super stylish coat maker, has unveiled its new coats for this winter: a collection of vegan and fair trade coats that are made of eco-friendly and sometimes recycled materials. Even better, they're made in the U.S.A. Founder Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart created Vaute in 2008 in order to offer coats that were warm enough for harsh winters without containing any animal products or compromising on aesthetics.   The coats are a bit pricey (from about ... Fashion designer Nzinga Knight doesn't use low-cut necklines in her designs, or gowns with thigh-high slits exposing bare legs. There’s no cleavage, back, or belly showing on the models who wear her designs. Why? Knight's a devout Muslim. Instead of flaunting the wearer's assets, her work's sex appeal is tied to the mystery of the covered body. "The look of my work is sensual, mysterious, innovative," she told Yahoo! News. She explained that her target is ... Read More
We're loving the fashions in these 1970s-era pictures of students at Brooklyn's Saint Joseph's College, which Flavorpill posted recently.      Many of the styles look pretty similar to the ones ladies are sporting today, like the large black-rimmed glasses, pea coats, button downs, and belted waists.  In fact, there are probably awesomely stylish girls dressed like this walking around Brooklyn right now.      There are also ... J. Fein Designs uses a combination of reclaimed items, vintage pieces, and sustainably grown wood to create stylish, unique, and eco-friendly pieces.  The company was founded by Jessica Feinsmith, who says she is inspired by her travels, nature, and the past.  Their wide selection of rings is especially awesome, including colorful butterflies and feminine cameos (there’s even a skull cameo, if you want a bit of edge) set on hand carved wooden ... A few months back, we put out a call for submissions, asking fashion bloggers to send shots of themselves in the outfits they thought they'd be wearing and loving come fall. We received so many amazing entries that it was tough to pick our favorites, but we showed off some fantastic ladies in our August/September issue. We didn't have enough room to include all the details of these great getups, but have no fear: you can find out everything you need to know below. ... Read More
