Every rap song needs to feature Nicki Minaj. I don’t know if that’s my opinion or the thought seriously on every music executive’s mind the past few months.   Willow Smith’s debut single, “Whip My Hair” is no exception to the Rule of Nicki. It’s hard to resist the catchy (however repetitive) song by Will Smith’s 9-year-old daughter, Willow. Nicki is only icing on the cupcake.  Check it out here. No ... Read More
In recent headlines the news has been swarming with information regarding the deaths of the five teenage boys that were bullied to the point of suicide. Bust cover alumni Sarah Silverman loses her funny bone when addressing the gay youth of America in a video message posted on Perez Hilton's Youtube account.   The quirky potty mouthed comedian points fingers towards the social policies constructed by the United States government stating that when the gay ... My Hulu wanderings led me to the “Chicken Ranch,” a documentary film about a legal brothel just outside Nevada. The documentary uncovers life inside the house, and gives a look into the psychology of the women who have to earn their living there. It reminded me a bit of “Paris is Burning,” in terms of sex being the deciding factor in how the subjects were going to live their lives. It could be gathered that all of the subjects were forced ... For the first time since about 1910, the percentage of adults age 25-34 who have never been married has exceeded those who have. The numbers are close, with something like 46.3% who have never been married and 44.9% who have. It is interesting to note that those who are less educated are also less apt to get married, which differs from the 1990s, when the opposite was true. Mark Mather, who analyzed the data from the Population Reference Bureau, says: ... Read More

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lauren and I recently quit my job in music marketing to return to my first love: writing. BUST has been so kind as to allow me a venue for this time of rediscovering that music can actually be awesome and not just a product to be shoved down people's throats. Currently my body is still sore from the combination of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's birthday show on Friday at Mercury Lounge and hanging out with BUST at the ... Neverland’s got nothing on the whimsical world constructed by Pearl and the Beard. The N.Y.C. based trio carries listeners on their backs through a DIY dreamland that is unpredictable, yet safe and warm like the comfort of one’s own bed.  The band’s debut album God Bless Your Weary Soul, Amanda Richardson is adventurous and may require a compass. Pearl and the Beard pairs the mythical and distant, as in the track “Vessel” a ... Read More
Mehran is a six-year-old Afghani girl who is being raised by her parents as a boy. This phenomenon is called bacha posh, and translates to “girl in boy’s clothes”. In Afghanistan boys are valued higher than girls; they are able to carry their father’s name and be privy to his inheritance. Women are alienated from any kind of social standing and not really even allowed to be seen let alone walk freely. Bacha posh looks to remedy this, ... Read More
