Men and Women Switch Clothes and Make Us Confused and Happy

by Mary Grace Garis

In my world, wearing someone’s flannels and ripped jeans is usually the before or after of getting laid. Standard fair, to be honest. I never had any of my love interests to do the same and commit to the whole 4-inch heels and ruffled mini-dress thing though. One of them put on my camisole as a joke, but nobody ever immerses themselves in the full Mary Grace experience.  Maybe for the best.

With all this said, there are two things I’m certain of: I really, really hope my parents never read my blog posts, and Hana Pesut’s Switcheroo project is weirdly precious.

Similar to the project we featured yesterday where men sported their girlfriend’s clothes, Switcheroo features both parties involved. Pesut, a Canadian photographer, has spent the last 3 years capturing couples (romantical, friends, family, or otherwise) in their own clothes, and then takes the same picture with the couple in their partners clothing. Why? To show there’s nothing wrong with gender neutrality and switching up fashion to show that everything can be unisex? Or is it less political than that and more-so about doing some quirky photography?

I dunno, but I think it’s adorable.

What’s really cool, too, is that every one of these people are fashion forward as hell. Like, they’re so well-dressed that it doesn’t look forced or unnatural. Everyone just looks totally fly.

And there’s even a BOOK now if you feel like paying for things you can get for free online! Hey, we’ve all done it at some point, did you really NEED to pick up Feminist Ryan Gosling at Barnes and Noble? I rest my case.

Anyway, I am in complete support of Ms. Pesut’s project, and I hope she cranks out more clothing swaps in the future. Because it’s a great display of breaking down normative gender constructs, and also I can’t get a guy to put on a dress for me.

Again, probably for the best.
