*Swoon* Kerry teach me your ways Scandal star and all-around awesome actress, Kerry Washington, will make her SNL debut on November 2nd. Yayayay! If you've ever watched Scandal you understand my excitement. And if you haven't watched Scandal...what do you do with your time? Get on it.  The announcement follows the hotly-debated lack of black female SNL cast members. Kenan Thomspon (one of only three actors of color on the 16-member cast) commented on ... Read More
The New Republic’s Laura Bennett has something important to say about Betty White’s recent roles in her essay “Betty White Is Not a Sex Machine: Our Cruel Obsession with Dirty Old Women.” While she acknowledges that elderly women in the media have gained traction, ceasing to be mostly “sexless [...] prudish nags,” she sees an increase in sexual exploitation of older women. From Betty White’s role in Hot in Cleveland to ... Read More
Hannah Horvath and her friends have it rough—they’re college-educated, financially supported, and so, so white (maybe not for long).  And in a Saturday Night Live sketch that aired during this weekend’s season premiere, the Girls girls have a new roommate with whom to compete in their weekly misery poker: Blerta. Tina Fey plays Blerta, a poor Albanian refugee with OCD (Old Cow Disease) who puts Hannah’s problems into ... Read More
What do Kourtney Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, and Fox and Friends host Gretchen Carlson all have in common? They're all some of the recurring characters played by actress and comedienne Vanessa Bayer on Saturday Night Live that never fail to make us laugh till it hurts. Bayer is a regular on SNL, but you’ve got a chance to see her off the screen and in real life at our 20th Anniversary Party! Bayer is a strong female role model for girls and women everywhere ... SNL alum and BUST favorite, Kristen Wiig will be gracing us with her hilarious (stage) presence on May 11th to host Saturday Night Live a year after she left the show on May 19th, 2012. (You might remember her emotional send-off which commemorated the seven years she spent on the NBC sketch comedy series.) Now we'll get to see her starring alongside former co-stars and keep our fingers crossed for some great guest spots (Tina? Amy? Rachel? Melissa McC? Just give ... Read More
The competition is on to create the next 30 Rock-- there are some incredibly buzz-worthy pilots in the works for fall, including an Andy Samberg cop show and a Seinfeld-esque vehicle by comedian and SNL writer John Mulaney. We're on pins and needles for both, but what's currently called The John Mulaney Show looks more impressive by the day. While it already boasts writing from one of the best comedians of the moment*, its cast will include such ... Read More
It turns out that Portlandia star Fred Armisen has an excellent Ira Glass impression in his arsenal of celebrity impersonations. Armisen delivered his best Ira Glass act on Glass's own NPR show, This American Life. The impression is also featured in a web exclusive out from NBC. Armisen's portrayal of Glass was scripted into a "Weekend Update" segment on SNL, but nixed after the audience didn't find it funny enough. Be sure to check out the video, as ... Read More
In what we can only guess is an attempt to put together the most effing amazing awards show ever, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are set to co-host the 70th Annual Golden Globes. These funny ladies only get funnier when they’re together. Remember Tina photo-bombing Amy at the Globes last year? Or the 2011 Emmys? Or Baby Mama? Or SNL? The list of times the two have been brilliantly paired together goes on and on. The Golden Globes will air on January 13, ... Read More
On Monday, NBC announced that three new comics will star in its upcoming 2012-2013 season of Saturday Night Live. All of them are Chicago based, and two of them are ladies. Though we're still bummed over the show's loss of Kristen Wiig, we're ready to open our hearts to these new comedic players. New stars Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson, and Cecily Strong are all affiliated with Second City, the famous troupe that has launched the careers of comedy ... Read More
Brace yourself: Kristin Wiig graduated from SNL this weekend. We’re providing the video in case you missed it, and you provide yourself with some tissues. Go. Now. As we were forewarned, it appears she is moving on to either paint and eat bread in Paris, or be a nun. Since she doesn’t like to have goals, she is probably just leaving this open. But for us devoted fans, we just hope she continues to grace the boob tube and the silver screen with her fab, ... Read More
