Eurostar, a company based in the United Arab Emirates, has created a tablet specifically for women, and the result is nothing good.  Their new creation, the ePad Femme, has an 8-inch touchscreen, 1GB of RAM, and Android 4.0.  Oh – and let’s not forget the pink cover and homescreen – this is for women after all. The ePad Femme, which currently costs $170, is currently only sold in the Middle East and parts of Asia.  And it ... Read More
Gloria Steinem, Allison Williams, and Tavi Gevinson got friendly last night at the premiere of MAKERS: Women Who Make America, a PBS documentary that explores the women's movement. Sadly, we were not within eavesdropping distance to hear what they were talking about, but maybe it was about world domination and the latest episode of Girls. Narrated by Meryl Streep(!) and featuring icons like Oprah Winfrey(!) and Hillary ... Read More
I go freakin’ nuts for Soledad O’Brien. She is a journalistic force to be reckoned with, and is absolutely fearless about calling people (namely blustering, biased dudes) on their bullshit. Just last week, she took down the chest-beating Senator Ron Johnson for his incredibly sexist remarks about Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; and a couple months back, she simply laughed in the face of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus’ contradictory remarks about ... Do you like 60s-era tunes? Do you like music videos? Do you enjoy things that are awesome? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you’ll need to head directly to Scopitones.com. For the uninitiated, Scopitones were the precursors to music videos—these short flicks were created in the 1960s to be played on specially made video jukeboxes in bars, restaurants, and amusement parks.     Too weird to live and too cool to die, ...   On Sunday night, 20-year-old Sharmeka Moffitt was walking through a park in northeastern Lousiana when three men approached her, covered her in flammable liquid, and set her on fire. Sharmeka put out the flames with a spigot and called 911. She suffered burns to over half of her body and was still in the hospital in critical condition as of yesterday.  The three men also wrote the letters ‘KKK’ and a racial slur on her car in a paste-like ...   Women’s issues have been an intense topic in this election, and our rights are important, especially considering we make up more than half of the population. In this awesome new PSA, entitled “You Don’t Own Me,” a multitude of women stand up for--and lip synch!--to Lesley Gore’s song of the same name (Lesley herself appears at the beginning to 'approve this message'!). As the vid’s description states,  “Women, ... Read More
Once upon a time, there was a snack made out of dried meat. This snack was magical, because it prevented spoilage, and therefore prevented the people of the kingdom from getting sick or hungry in times of trouble. The people rejoiced! Over time, however, a bunch of people decided that this snack needed to take over the world. The only way to do this, in the small minds of these puny people, was to appeal to both men and women, separately (not just humankind in ... Read More
Last night, after Mitt Romney made a comment about “binders full of women,” social media took the unintentionally hilarious phrase and ran with it - a tumblr has already been created.   ln keeping with Romney’s idea that women are simply stored in paper documents, Brainpickings has posted a list of twelve rules dated 1943 (possibly found in a binder somewhere) that any decent woman should follow.  Women shall not appear on the ...   In what we can only guess is an attempt to put together the most effing amazing awards show ever, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are set to co-host the 70th Annual Golden Globes. These funny ladies only get funnier when they’re together. Remember Tina photo-bombing Amy at the Globes last year? Or the 2011 Emmys? Or Baby Mama? Or SNL? The list of times the two have been brilliantly paired together goes on and on. The Golden Globes will air on January 13, ... Read More
When I read that a cafe in Tokyo is providing customers the offer to sleep with a girl for about $80, I was like, hold the phone.  It’s not what you’re probably thinking, though--it’s quite literally just sleeping. If you feel like splurging, you can pay an additional 1000 yen (roughly $13) for your female snuggler to pat you on your head while you sleep, or you can stare at each other for one minute (staring contest, go!).  The ...
