Grab the tissues and chocolate sweets (be they in bar or kiss form). The Vivian Girls are officially splitting up, and I'm still trying to process this information without turning into a puddle of sadness in the middle of work. Yes, after seven wonderful years filled with awesome music and the most enviable bangs, the band is calling it quits.

They wrote on their website:

Brooklyn, New York, March 2007: we started making music together and became what we know as Vivian Girls.  It's been a long and crazy journey in the seven years since, and we feel as though the time has finally come to let our band rest in peace.  It's been an experience that we'll look back on and cherish and we'd like to thank you for sharing it with us.  We have had such an amazing time being a band, touring the world, releasing records and meeting all of you.

We've book some ALL AGES shows as goodbye.  The first will be on February 14th at The Church on York in LA.  The second will be on March 1st at Death by Audio in Brooklyn.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way, everyone who has come to our shows, bought our records and supported us, and everyone we will meet in the future.

XOXO

Vivian Girls

While there will be no more Vivian Girls (oh my heart!), at least we will still get to follow the Girls on their other projects: Katy with La Sera (new album due later this year), Cassie with the Babies and solo work, and Ali with Upset.

To soothe our wounds and the inevitable music marathon, here's a behind the scenes clip of the Vivian Girls in a Nancy Drew themed photo shoot for BUST back in 2009.

Rest in Peace Vivian Girls, may you go down in rock history as one of the best rock bands. Ever. Period.
